Along with this emphasis on quality, Hacienda Patrón takes a proactive approach to improve the situation in its region in the face of the environmental and social challenges we’re all faced with.

A true commitment to the environment and the community

Water

Since a spirit is made up mainly of water, a distillery consumes a lot of this precious resource. At Patrón, thanks to the installation of a treatment system, 10,000 cubic metres of water were saved in the first year. And by the end of 2025, 50% of the water used in each bottle will be returned to nature. This water is also reused in the operation of the stills and for cleaning.

Air

Hacienda Patrón is proud to be the first tequila distillery to have equipped itself with a gas pipeline to use natural gas as its main source of energy, thus reducing its CO2 emissions.

Earth

To minimize the impact on forests, all cardboard and paper used for bottle labels and packaging are certified as "sustainably sourced" by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a non-profit organization that certifies more than 200 million hectares of forests around the world.

The agave at the base of tequilas is a plant that matures after seven long years. To protect it and contribute to its sustainability, Patrón is preemptively funding a large agricultural research center in Mexico, the benefits of which will be accessible to the entire industry.

Patrón is also the first company in the world and the only one in Mexico to certify its agave production with Global G.A.P., whose standards aim to promote safe, socially and environmentally responsible agricultural practices.

In addition, for its compost needs for fertilization, the distillery reuses more than 5,500 tonnes of agave fibre from production, on top of taking over fibres from 10 other nearby distilleries.

The environmental benefits of trees are numerous, which is why since 2015, 16,000 trees have been replanted or donated in the area adjacent to the facilities, for the benefit of the community. And it doesn't stop there! During a recent expansion project, instead of being cut down, 3,000 lime trees were replanted to maintain vegetation cover.

People

There’s the environment, but there are also those who inhabit it. Patrón would be nothing without the many farmers who tirelessly work the land to produce the agave that is the basis of tequilas. A pioneer in this field, the distillery ensures a minimum income for these workers so that their activity is profitable.

And since these women and men are at the heart of the operations, in the same spirit, the distillery supports a local food bank distributing essential food to more than 1,000 households. Also, in order to provide them with an exceptional working environment, employees enjoy several benefits such as educational programs outside of working hours, flexible working hours and free transportation to the distillery.

It's obvious that these many actions taken by the distillery have a real positive impact on the region and its community. From now on, when you taste one of these excellent tequilas, you’ll know that the company that makes them truly cares about the environment and its employees.
